A Chaddock School 3rd grader and her family share their joy: “We have much better communication and respect for each other. We can now talk through frustrations or feelings.”

We measure our clients’ success at Chaddock in a myriad of different ways. For the community students who attend Chaddock School, success is not only based on academics but also on their social and emotional progress. The following story comes from an interview with one of our community students and her family.

After a few years of struggling in regular education classrooms and settings, Joanie came to Chaddock in 3rd grade. Her dad shared, “Attending her previous school had been a daily struggle. She didn’t want to go and struggled every minute of the day to accomplish daily tasks.”

When Chaddock School was recommended for Joanie, her family was unsure. “As a new family coming into Chaddock we were uncertain of what to expect. But from the initial meeting regarding placement to the current day, we have been included on all decisions, milestones, or set backs and always had the full support of the staff. They all truly want to help and genuinely care.

Since attending Chaddock School we have seen many positive changes in our daughter. She is learning to process her feelings before responding with emotions. She has learned responsibility for her actions and responsibilities in life. We have much better communication and respect for each other. We can now talk through frustrations or feelings.”

We are proud of so many milestones Joanie has achieved since coming to Chaddock School. She is more willing to work on academics she struggles with versus just shutting down as she has done before. She even made the honor roll! Her social and emotional behaviors improved tremendously.

Elementary teacher, Alice Arnold, has been Joanie’s teacher this year. “Ms. Arnold has been a true blessing to our daughter and us in many ways.

As for Joanie, she shared that she feels “happy and calm” when she is at school and she now enjoys school for the most part!
