Our staff often witness incredible transformations in the students who walk through our school doors. Eve, a high school student, was struggling to find her footing. She had difficulty forming relationships and accepting that she was welcomed, worthy, and loved. Ms. Frese, her teacher at Chaddock School, supported Eve through those tough times, especially when Eve couldn’t believe she deserved the care and support being offered to her.

Ms. Frese never gave up on Eve and continuously sought ways to connect with her. The turning point came when Ms. Frese’s golden retriever was certified to come to school. Sometimes, our young people find it easier to connect with an animal than with people. Within the first week of the dog’s arrival, Eve’s behavior improved significantly.

As Eve bonded with the dog, she also found it easier to connect with her classmates and teachers. Before long, she was sharing her bright smile, giving hugs, and high-fiving her teachers and fellow students. The unconditional love Eve experienced through her connection with the dog provided the healing she needed to open herself up to care and friendship from others.
