Thank you to our Pen Pal Friends at Ellington Memorial Presbyterian Church for helping our girls celebrate Valentine's Day! The letters, cards, candy, and flowers made our writing time extra sweet!
Shout out to Miss Kloee's painting group! They did some Alma Thomas inspired mosaic art to celebrate black history month!
“Alma Thomas was a very important abstract painter in the 1960s and '70s. She was the first African-American woman to have a solo art exhibition at the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York City in 1972! Despite others' opinions about her gender and race, she was able to excel as an expressionist painter. She loved nature, and would transform nature into colorful, bright, abstract mosaics.”
Three of Ms. Drake’s children in her elementary classroom reached their goal of receiving 100 stickers on the same day! For years, Ms. Drake has had a system in place that allows her children to earn a sticker for each hour of the day. To earn a sticker, the students have to complete all of their work and have positive and appropriate interactions with staff and peers.
We know the best part about Ms. Drake’s system is that each hour presents a fresh start to do well and be acknowledged for it. The kids think the best part is earning a prize and celebrating their 100 hours of success with a party in their honor. Congrats to the kids and to Ms. Drake and Ms. Lexi who recognize the best in their kids every day!
