The DTAP® Treatment Approach

The DTAP® treatment approach is a framework that organizes interventions based on a child’s current functioning and aligns with the brain’s three key regions: the back brain (brain stem), midbrain (limbic system), and forebrain (cortex). Our approach simplifies the treatment process by outlining where to start and how to progress. Created especially for children impacted by developmental trauma experiences, the DTAP® treatment approach is meant to be a guide for professionals in selecting the most effective interventions and tailor treatment to the child’s evolving needs. This treatment approach recognizes that treatment is flexible and may require adjustments based on the child's individual needs and progress.
