Taking Effective Control
Chaddock's Reality-Based Student Living Program Taking Effective Control, or TEC, is Chaddock's progressive treatment program based on the concepts of Reality Therapy and Choice Theory. The TEC program involves three stages of treatment. Each successive stage represents an increase in responsibilities for the residential student.

TEC I, the involvement stage, is the orientation phase for new residents. It acquaints residents with the procedures, rules and expectations of the campus environment and introduces Chaddock's treatment model-Reality Therapy/Choice Theory (RT/CT). TEC I focuses on helping individuals identify and prioritize goals for treatment at Chaddock. TEC II, the working stage, emphasizes active implementation of the individual goal-oriented treatment plan.

The demonstration stage, or TEC III, is the final stage of Chaddock's residential treatment. A focus of this stage is enabling students to plan, maintain and continue with developed skills and behaviors. This well-defined treatment philosophy helps students identify program goals, and receive maximum benefit from residential treatment. In the TEC program, each stage builds upon the other resulting in a continuous process enhanced by students' strengths and successes.

TEC's no-fail approach differs from conventional behavior modification programs by emphasizing the development of a progressive plan for improvement using self-evaluation skills.
