Treatment Philosophy
Chaddock's treatment philosophy is built around the application of Reality Therapy/ ChoiceTheory (RT/CT). RT/CT is based on the principle that we are responsible for our behaviors -- and every behavior is an attempt to meet one of five basic needs: survival, power, belonging, freedom and fun. RT/CT addresses personal strengths and begins to build on these so people can develop sufficient strength to handle the stresses and problems of life.

Effectively implementing this philosophy is dependent on two major factors: creating an environment that is supportive and conducive to allow people to change; and approaching relationships with the following steps that lead to change by allowing people to take more effective control of their lives.

  • Involvement based on mutual trust and concern
  • Focusing on present behavior
  • Evaluating behavior
  • Planning responsible behavior
  • Commitment to the plan
  • Not accepting excuses
  • Consequences not punishment
  • Never giving up

A quality environment is a core determinant of successful change and the ability to get one's needs met. Chaddock continually strives to offer students a quality environment which:

  • Is warm, friendly and supportive
  • Provides services that are useful and helpful
  • Asks everyone to do their best
  • Encourages on-going self-evaluation
  • Feels good
