Independent Living Program
Chaddock's Independent Living Program, which serves youth ages 16-21, has two components: supervised independent living on Chaddock's campus, and independent living in community apartments.
In both components, youth are responsible for maintaining a budget, paying rent and other living expenses, as well as buying and preparing their own meals. The supervised independent living cottage has individual rooms, with awake staff on duty 24-hours a day.
Youth in the program receive weekly individual counseling, as well as Transitional Services classes, which cover a variety of topics including money management, taxes, comparison shopping and food preparation, community resources, career choices, employment, and time management. One-on-one time is spent on specific areas based on client needs, and additional groups on basic life skills are available.
Youth progress through the program in three phases. Working with a case manager, the client identifies realistic wants and needs. Goals and objectives to achieve those needs are then developed into an individualized plan. The plan may address employment, education, recreation, community services and personal development or life skills training.
Finally the client and caseworker will develop a plan to transition to complete self-sufficiency and independence.
